Culver City Dub Collective – Dos
Born in Los Angeles and steeped in global influences, Culver City Dub Collective fuses Jamaican roots reggae, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and West Coast bossa beats into a sound that’s as intoxicating as a sunset drive along the PCH. Led by drummer/songwriter Adam Topol and guitarist/engineer Franchot Tone, this all-star ensemble creates a simmering soundtrack for hazy summer afternoons and endless road trips.
The group’s 2007 full-length album, Dos, is a masterpiece of eclectic collaboration, featuring standout contributions from Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Money Mark, Merlo Podlewski, Studio One legend Winston Jarrett, Jay Malinowski of Bedouin Soundclash, Kool G Murder (The Eels), and Hepcat’s Alex Désert. The album moves seamlessly from Joey Altruda’s upbeat California soul remix of “The Cave” to the haunting big band echoes of “Waltz for Tomahawk,” an homage to Gil Evans.
Ben Harper’s snake-charmer guitar enchants on “Eloise (Baghdad Remix),” while Jack Johnson’s velvety vocals light up the infectious remix of “Crying Shame.” Winston Jarrett brings Kingston vibes to “Big Long Gun,” a track so vivid you can almost taste the curried goat and hear the streets of Jamaica.
Dos is a reflection of the Collective’s versatility and vibrant energy. Whether touring with Jack Johnson, The Wailers, or Toots and the Maytals, or captivating crowds alongside The English Beat and Piers Faccini, Culver City Dub Collective continues to bring their magnetic fusion to the stage and beyond.
🎶 Let Dos transport you to a world where rhythms collide and melodies linger long after the music ends.
